HAWAH will be sharing spoken word poetry and prose. Selecting passages from his 3 books, "Trails: Trust before Suspicion," "Escape Extinction," and "zerONEss."

Sunflower compatriot Roger Cutler and I will be living in the Artomatic building for the duration of the event. I will write a novel while he makes use of the sunny windows to grow sunflowers.

As a special Mother's Day performance, our mothers will sit in for us.

Theme-Poetry and poetry-related reading

The poetry session will be with acoustic guitar to set the mood and it will be me reading my poetry in english and my student that will read a spanish poem with music in the background so you can feel the words that flow from the lips of the poet and how the feelings with guitar in the background.

Kimbally A. Medeiros is a natural born writer. Since the moment her parents put a pen in her hand, she has been writing to invigorate and motivate creativity both within herself as well as others. The spirit of her writing vacillates between sometimes forlorn, sometimes jovial inspiration and contexts. She is motivated by her inner and outer worlds, with a keen eye to her surroundings and her overwhelming sense of self. Her observations are poetically unique, where she sees the complexities of life and offers a deeper, sounder understanding to her readers and listeners of both her own life experiences as well as others. Her poetry book, Slow Dance on a Whirling Chair, is seen as a testament to her life struggles and triumphs. When reading her own words filled with enlightening imagery, she speaks with a rhythm of the mood of the poem—animated or melancholic, vivacious or soulful.

Bethany's poems range on topics from religious freedom and discrimination, to depression and anxiety, women's issues, and social justice issues.

I will read from my first book of poems Inner Journey - The Birth of a Poet a collection of provacative love poems. The poems are about universal love, love of nature and love between a man and a women, the ups and downs.

Poetry Reading in Spanish - Lectura de Poesía en Español.

I am a native Washingtonian performance artist. My performances are a non-linear mixture of music, poetry, and character driven monologues. My poetry deals with self-actualization, sexual identity, social commentary, and love poems. My music is jazz/funk/neo-soul hybrid which lyrically mirrors my poetry. My work reflects life from the perspective of a gay man of African decent.

Megan Riley's work was nominated for a Pushcart Prize Best of the Small Presses in 2004 and appears in various literary magazines. Her poetry is best described as "unlike what you'd expect from her." She graduated from the University of Maryland MFA program in 2002 and is fortunate to work on campus with undergraduates who plan to change the world.

Matthew Salomon

Matt will read a selection of poems from his own works, translations, and those of others, old and new that have been inspired by or have inspired works of visual art. Each reading will be accompanied by visual projections of the work(s) inspiring or inspired by the poem. The performance will attempt to simulate (as much as possible) conditions under which readers might encounter poem-image pairings on the internet, and will allow for interaction and collaboration between the reader/presenter and listener/viewer.

Matt is a DC-area poet, currently working on a book-length manuscript of original poems and translations, and a prose adaptation of the Middle English poem, Sir Gawain and the Green Knight. He has read from his poems and prose at a number of venues in recent years and, in 2007, he completed an MFA in Creative Writing at American University. He is interested in exploring the new freedoms for poetry and visual art made possible by the ascendancy of the so-called new media. I dip a toe into the stream of consciousness while keeping an eye on the formalities of poetry. I believe, as I have learned from Heather McHugh, that, "a linear poem is attracted to its own extinction." I also believe that if You don't get any of it, I haven't done my part.
I might also throw in a story because, well, I can. And besides, who doesn't like a good story.
