In my opinion art has no boundaries, so I feel that I can let my imagination go free without setting any limits. By releasing my imagination, I can allow my brush to flow on the canvas and translate my dreams and emotions on to the canvas. Most of my paintings are created in my mind, before I even pick up a brush to start a painting. I strive to create paintings that are exciting, unique and vibrant. Vivid colors play a vital role in my work. My art has grown and blossomed over the years, because I am continuously changing my style and techniques. I am inspired by a lot of different things to create my work. The work of other great artists inspire me. In addition, I am inspired by my response to everyday experiences in life and the people in my life. I get inspired by the visuals around me, my travels and last but not least my music. God has given me a gift and painting comes to me naturally. Over the years, I have drawn so much that my brain is consumed with ideas. When I start a sketch or painting I start off with an idea and then the painting takes me somewhere else and after a while the painting seems to be controlling my thinking process and my hand. My art is an expression of my subconscious mind. During my career as an artist, I have been influenced by masters such as Salvador Dali, Pablo Picasso, Jonathan Borofsky, Joan Miro, Max Ernst, Archile Gorky and Yves Tanguy. The popular saying states: "Less is more." But I believe that "More is more." More color, movements, emotions and patterns. With all my paintings, I'm attempting to manipulate colors and complicated designs, in a manner that will challenge the eye and mind of my audiences. Creating stories through my paintings are one of my goals, without the obvious and clear meaning. I hope that the final story is created in the viewer's own mind.

My art is an visual expression of my spiritual mission in this life, which is to listen to the subtle voices of the world around us, connect with the divine within and beyond, authentically express my truths, and celebrate the joys and challenges of life with others.

Lets have coffee. I want coffee. Lets go! Gears shift and the combination of thought, perception, memory, emotion, will and imagination, manifests into action/reaction and the simple act of getting a cup of coffee is achieved. This is where I begin. I stop time and visualize the initial spark in the nervous system. Colors explode in unison and i portray the colors that swim in my mind.

My current project sets out to capture, through visual literacy, a spiritual mythos of world cultures combining traditional cultural images, filtering them through my interpretations of the lore of the mythology, and rendering them with my own iconographic style.

With my works, I want to ask questions of how these images are playing into our globalized mythos and how color, shape, pattern and symbology of traditional images play on the universal psyche. In the tradition of visual literacy that empowered the visual arts to inform and educate people of their spiritual traditions, Christianity in the West and Hinduism and Buddhism in the East, I want to use my art to create a visual literacy of a "world mythos." This term, "world mythos," in reference to my art, includes more literal translations of a specific mythology and also works that are more fantasy based using cultural images, mythology and a contemporary dialog, including my own, with media of the current globalizing world.

Art is one of the things that defines humanity. We all make art, from boardroom doodles to fingerpaintings to the shape of a phone to Mount Rushmore. I like art to be inviting and friendly, not distant and incomprehensible. My pieces try to invite and reward interaction and exploration.

Marina's art is about connecting and relationships. The colorful creatures that she paints are reaching out to connect with kindred spirits. Sometimes these connections are happy, sometimes quite odd, but that's what makes life beautiful.
Marina's creatures are hopeless romantics, they keep searching and reaching out, and keep trying to make the connection anyway.

In many ways I feel my journey as an artist has just begun even though as a child I was always creating. I learned the basics of ceramics in my late twenties from my mother and father, both accomplished potters. Later I enhanced my techniques by studying at Penland School of Crafts and Arrowmont School of Arts and Crafts.
After giving up my plans of becoming a
famous fashion designer, world class mogul skier and veterinarian, I’ve resigned myself to being a quirky artist who resides in Silver Spring, Maryland with my 2 dogs and always amusing husband.

My latest work "Personal Secrets", will address the dark and twisty side of my life...
