Davin acquired a love of travel and learning early in life. Inspired by the work of Henri Cartier-Bresson, Ansel Adams, Walker Evans, Elliot Erwitt, and Steve McCurry, he took up photography as a means to further explore and share the wonders of the world, whether they are found on the other side of the globe or just down the street. Previously based in Seattle and New York, Davin has recently joined the artist community in Washington, DC. He has utilized a fully digital workflow since early 2004. Further examples of his work can be found online at nivad.net.

aesthetic and graphic beauty appear when you know how to see.
my art shows how i see the world, and emphasizes the importance of taking time to really see our daily surroundings, to appreciate the imagery and textures in environments that constantly subconsciously add to our lives.
i appreciate the simple patterns that appear in a wall of cracked, peeling paint ...
i notice the way light shines and catches on my keys, tossed on the side table from when i got home ...
or perhaps walking to work, the sunlight casts shadows in the holes and indentations in the sidewalk, and i suddenly see that one shadow has been created in the shape of a heart.

I've switched categories from 2 to 3-D. [If this is the right area to make such formal proclamations]. I work in any medium where the concept dictates. The pieces I'll be submitting are two found-objects that have been enhanced to create new contexts. One is a shopping cart I found that looked like it had been struck by some large, fast-moving object. The "applied torque" that had been "assigned" to it as a result of such impact struck ME as a kind of form that the architect Frank Gehry would have developed for one of his buildings. Over an extended period of 2 or 3 years, the cart was cleaned up and enhanced to suggest that if Gehry designed a grocery store, this is what it might look like. The other object is an automobile gas tank that has been cut in half and turned into a suit case carrying supplies for "gas attacks". All interpretations are correct.

Blending ancient and modern instrumentation and spirit, the Baltimore-based group Telesma bridges the gap between primal and futuristic. Setting themselves apart with their intoxicating sound and extraordinary live performances, they take the audience on a soul inspiring journey that transcends this world, tantalizes the senses, and moves the body with waves of pulsating rhythm. "To experience Telesma live is to become part of the show. More than just music, it’s a swirling, whirling, twirling event...it’s extremely hard not to become involved in the swaying, hypnotic rhythms that pour forth from the stage.†Michael Macey of the Chesapeake Music Guide.
Telesma’s unique sound, oft labeled "electro-acoustic psychedelic world dance music", is driven by the ancient sound of the didgeridoo, the kubing (bamboo mouth harp), tribal drums and percussion, and the human voice. These elements are fused with modern instruments and technology to create a diverse sound ranging from intense polyrhythmic rock-n-roll, to ambient melodic meanderings, to trance-like pulses found in modern electronic dance/groove music.
Telesma's album "O(h)M" is available at shows, online at itunes.com and CDBABY.com/telesma.
Telesma is proud to feature the Indra Lazul Bellydancers. www.myspace.com/indralazul

James Terrell is a renaissance man,
He is a singer, songwriter, guitarist and figurative painter.
Born in D.C, he holds a BFA from Howard University, a MFA from Parsons School of Design and a M. Div from Union Theological Seminary/ Columbia University in New York City.
James Stephen Terrell creates and delivers songs, which emerge, from the American Experience. The music crosses cultural lines. It is grass roots sprouting out of the urban concrete paved environment.
The Music of James Terrell is commentary on the world in which we live.
It combines words with rhythmic freedom and naturalness with soul stirring fervor.
The music incorporates the basic principle of urban folk, country, gospel and blues.
The music is saturated with spirituality, immersed in reflection and draped in mediation that melodically stimulates the mind and soothes the soul.
His music is sympathetic to the wants of humanity and sincere to the needs of the spirit.
It has a quality of not just entertainment but enlightenment.
The subject matter of the music preserves a sense of continuity with the past, a critique on the present and a longing for a brighter tomorrow.
The music of James Terrell is heartfelt.

The power of light to reveal form and the beauty of the discarded have been central to my work. Painting is a way to construct a world where opposing forces --
light and shadow, order and disintegration, what is lost and what remains --are held in eternal balance.

Artwork throughout the time has served a purpose to enlighten but give meaning to living. I strive to bring the functionality of art to the 21st century. My elders at Tennessee State University a HBC in Nashville, TN taught me about the use of Afrocentric and traditional African symbols to project a certain feel for the object. Along with the ability to create objects to perform certain things in your life such as …
enlightenment, history, self-identification, love, and many other things.
