Satirical rumblings may be obscure, but the choice of your appetizer is not so secure.
Delve into sin, and fish for squid, for the troll at the station is not a kid.
Ask in the morning, and help at dusk, it's Saturn's moons that will not rust.
Picture a candy bar, ripe in spring, tis tomorrow's wishes you can sing!

Hailing from the Midwest, Holly Burns has been making art for as long as she can remember. Currently, she's exploring the use of non-traditional materials in her work by drawing and painting on napkins, envelopes, and other scrap materials. Using a black ink pen and sometimes incorporating acrylic paint, Holly illustrates the human interactions of every day life that she is lucky enough to notice. She believes that these small but universal moments can be overshadowed by today's fast-paced world and she hopes that through her drawings she can help people to appreciate them more. Holly's work can be described as whimsical and reflective. She is inspired by Marlene Dumas, Roald Dahl, Gerhardt Richter, art students, her friends, and her mom.

At age three, I became fascinated with bugs. They were like moving toys waiting to be discovered in my parents’ garden. I loved their colors, shapes, and most of all their strangeness. For AOM, I’m displaying an "insect collection" featuring some of my favorite bugs painted in gouache.
By day, I'm a graphic designer and when not doing that, I run dcska.com, a web site devoted to ska music in and around the DC area.

I was inspired to create art on old mirrors. I took discarded household items and gave them new life. All pieces are salvaged mirrors and mixed media, mainly frosted glass spray and paint. All stencils are original freehand designs, therefore each piece is an original.

Atypical images.
Sure, Jason Colston of j6photo shoots powerful portraits, natural wonders, and DC monuments--
but his captures offer a different perspective...
The kind of perspective capable of personifying concrete.
Atypical--that's what makes his photos so darn cool.
Jason is an Arlington-based freelance photographer and award-winning video producer/director/writer/shooter at his company, J6 Productions, Inc (www.j6productions.com)
He's been shooting since he was a kid (courtesy of the Pentax K1000 he swiped from his older brother) and he's never looked back. (His brother has since forgiven him)

In brief, the show is about cutout layered paper.
Intricate shapes are cut out from each layer to reveal colors and shapes in the layer(s) below it. When all layers are assembled, a complete image is created. Once I have taken an image and determined the necessary layers (using Photoshop), I cutout the paper squares, typically four to eight per image. I use acid free / archival papers; no glue, or markings are used. I usually assemble the layers in a CD tray -- and that allows the owner to open the tray and examine the individual pieces. Or, alternatively, the piece can be mounted in a traditional frame. I think you will find that this process for creating paper art is unique, and interesting in itself.
The focus of this show was a series of butterflies I recently completed.
All pieces displayed at Artomatic were available at a discounted price. You will be able to find pricing information and more details on my web site.
Thanks for supporting Artomatic 2008!

Painting and glass sculpture are my mediums; for this show I am concentrating on wall-hung glass dresses. My work generally references the real world, but I wouldn't claim to know what it all means.
