ARTOMATIC 2008

There’s only one week until opening day for Artomatic 2008, and excitement is building for the arts spectacular of the summer. With more than 100 free events, activities and performances planned over 28 days and nights May 9–June 15, Artomatic is a can’t-miss attraction.

Registration Update

There are more than 1,000 visual and performing artists signed up to participate in Artomatic 2008.

Registration remains open for Performing Artists: Click Here To Register and Get Your Act Booked.

We still have some space left for Visual Artists, and some time left, so, let's fill the building. We have space along the outside walls between the windows. These spaces are 4' wide and will be covered with a sheet of drywall. We also have a bunch of space for 3-D artwork.

We'll set up for another orientation and site selection at 10:30 am on Saturday (5/3). Your name will not appear in the printed artist lists as they have already been sent to the printer.

Please RSVP to registration@artomatic.org if you'll attend. Please be prompt as we have a lot to accomplish this weekend.

Installation Update

We have only six more days available to install your artwork. Please do not come outside of these hours as the building will not be open.

Installation Hours:

  • Friday, Saturday, and Sunday: Noon to 10 pm
  • Monday, Tuesday, and Wednesday: 5 pm to 10 pm

**We Will Not Be Open for Installation on Thursday, May 8th.**

Friday, May 9 is Opening Day.

Help Keep the Building Clean

We're starting to beat up the elevators. It could be a little busy this weekend. Please have patience with the volunteers and your fellow artists. Please do not carry your supplies and materials in the regular elevators. Read the signs in the freight elevators.

We don't have trash pickup yet so we need you to take your trash with you or bring your Mom to clean up after you. The volunteers aren't on duty to clean up after you. Please don't leave trash in your space, on the loading dock, or just lying around. Please clean the janitors sink when you are finished also.

Drywall

We need help hanging single sheets of drywall this weekend (Saturday noon would be best). We're still adding artists and they need walls. We have drywall screws but need the labor to put the walls up. Please bring a drill and a knife. I suspect there will about 20 pieces to hang.

If we've missed a space that still needs drywall, let us know.

We would also like someone to cut pieces of drywall to lay on the floor in the elevators. Somehow, we're getting paint on the floors. I don't know how because no one should be using the regular elevators to carry paint and such, but we're tired of cleaning them already.

Please let event@artomatic.org know if you can help here.

Volunteers Still Needed for Installation Days

Opening Day is coming soon, and there are volunteer shifts that still need to be staffed. Artomatic is a community that is self-organized and self-governed by its artists and volunteers. Participating visual artists must work at least three shifts. If you haven't already signed up, please go to the Artomatic website and schedule your shifts - we need everyone's cooperation and participation to make Artomatic the great event it is known to be!

Thank you very much, your hard work is greatly appreciated!

If you have any problems accessing your Artomatic profile or signing up for shifts, please contact web@artomatic.org

Gallery Managers Needed

The Gallery Manager organizes the volunteers during their shifts on the site, assigns tasks, and is the point person for the day throughout the entire Artomatic calendar, from Installation to Deinstallation. If you would be interested in working as a Gallery manager please contact Stephanie Bonifant at volunteer@artomatic.org.

Power and Lights

Artists with spaces along the outer walls should be receiving a phone call in the next day or two to discuss their electrical needs. We're doing our best to get electrical outlets close enough to all artists.

If you have an electrical need that hasn't been addressed, please send an email to event@artomatic.org with "electric" in the subject line and let them know. Include your name and space number in the email.

We will flip main switches and circuit breakers to power down each floor at the end of each night. We need to know about the special start-up and turn-off sequences for your computers and video equipment, etc.

Please send detailed instructions to event@artomatic.org with "lighting" in the subject line, and someone will compile the list of instructions.
