Talk About Art and Artomatic

Come and share stories about Artomatic and your artwork at the Artomatic Interview Room and help preserve Artomatic history!

We want every Artomatic artist talk on the record and be a part of the Artomatic Artists Archive. Stop by the 7th floor to answer a questionnaire, leave a resume for the 2008 Artists File, participate in “Art is” and see Artists Portraits from Artomatic 2004. Interviews for the Artomatic Artists Archives will be held on Fridays -- May 23, May 30, June 6 and June 13 -- from 3 p.m.-7 p.m.

The Artomatic Artists Archives was started in 2004 supported in part by a grant from the Humanities Council of Washington, D.C. The archives will be donated to the Martin Luther King Library Washingtontoniana Collection. Anyone who has documented artists at Artomatic is invited to add their materials to the archives. Volunteers are welcome. Send us an e-mail at oralhistory@artomatic.org for more information.

Artomatic 500

Artists, start your cardboard! Green flag for Artomatic 500
In the spirit of art cars and kinetic sculpture races, Artomatic is planning its own take on the classic car race with the Artomatic 500 Cardboard Creation Competition on Sunday, June 1, at 2 p.m.

All Artomatic participants are invited to create a two- or three-dimensional cardboard "vehicle.” Vehicles should be powered entirely by a walking or running human and decorated by drivers and their teams. Your vehicle might look something like a cross between this and this, with a bit of this.

Want to participate? Got some ideas? Contact Artomatic Marketing and Development Committee co-chair Sal Ferro, or visit the event Web page. Watch for signs and stay tuned to Artomatic for further details.

Artomatic Marketplace

Plans are set for this year’s Artomatic Marketplace, which will be held Saturday, June 7, from noon ‘til 5 p.m. All the vendor slots are now full. Make plans to come and check out the art for sale and take home a special one-of-a-kind creation.

Artist Social - Take Two
The first Artist Social was so successful we're having another!
Mark your calendars for the Artist Social II: Thursday, June 12, 6 p.m.-8 p.m., Artomatic 12th floor.
Art in Fashion

Artists are invited to contribute their ideas and talent to the first-ever Art in Fashion show, to be held Saturday, June 14, at Artomatic.

The fire-themed event, to be held from 8 p.m. to 2 a.m., will bring together models, designers, photographers and artists. Costume and fashion design is sought, as well as performance art, dance, mime, hair design, body piercing, body paint and tattoo art. Wall art and standing displays are also needed.

Take part in the show or just make plans to attend. For full details, e-mail fashion@artomatic.org

What Can I Get Ya?
Bar managers and ABC licensees needed: Artomatic goes through a mind-boggling amount of booze -– several hundred cases of beer and wine in the first two weekends alone –- and it's the responsibility of the bar manager to stay on-site to make sure that we're doing it all legally.

We still need bar managers for the last two weekends of Artomatic, June 5-8 and June 12-15. If you work at a bar in D.C. and already have an ABRA manager's license, we definitely want your help. If you don't already have a license, we can walk you through the licensing process. (You will need to live in D.C., be available to work a full day of Artomatic from open 'til close, and fill out about two hours of paperwork with the D.C. government by this Monday, May 26.)

If you qualify, e-mail Aaron at atzaom@sigsegv.com with a day or days you can work. Volunteering as a bar manager counts towards your Artomatic volunteer commitment.
We Need More Power!
We are still having electrical overload issues on certain floors. If your lights are a problem, we may have unplugged them and left a pink tag explaining why. If you discovered your lighting unplugged and a pink explanation tag, don't rip the tag off and plug the lights back in again. You must reduce the electrical load.
Peeples Choice Award

We've set up a ballot box on the 10th floor by the Peeps area so you can vote for your favorite Peeps diorama. We'll announce the winner of the first-ever Artomatic Peeples Choice Award at the Peeps party on Saturday, May 31, from 6 p.m.-9 p.m.

While you're there, check out the new chalkboard playground next to the Peeps. Everyone is invited to chalk one up!

Event Calendar 2.0
Take a look at our new event calendar powered by sched.org. With the ability to search, save, print and share schedules, you'll agree it's better than our old one. If you're planning a conference or event in the near future, sched.org can build one for you. E-mail holla@sched.org for information.
Yikes! Bikes!
The NoMa Business Improvement District is working with the D.C. Department of Transportation have bike racks installed at Artomatic. Visitors will be able to leave their bikes outside as they browse our 10 amazing floors of art and enjoy music, film, dance and more.
Have A Seat
Encourage visitors to linger by your art by setting up a seating enclave near your paintings, photographs, drawings, sculptures, etc. Bring in chairs, stools, benches or any other interesting seating surface.
West Elm Furniture Auction

The West Elm-furnished lounges at this year’s Artomatic have really helped class up the event. Now you can bring some of that stylish vibe home at bargain prices.

Artomatic will be auctioning off all the furniture from the West Elm-furnished lounges, with bids starting at half-off retail. The pieces includes sofas, lamps, coffee tables and rugs. Stop by the lounges to check out the full selection.

The auction is only for West Elm furniture at the event, and all furniture is sold as is. Auction forms and signs go up this week and bidding closes on the last day of Artomatic, June 15. Look for auction forms at each West Elm Lounge. Great deals are to be had!
