Launched at Aromatic in November 2004, PostSecret is an ongoing community art project where people mail in their secrets anonymously on one side of a homemade postcard. About 200,000 secrets have been shared. PostSecret has attracted interest from around the world, and the project’s Web site, www.PostSecret.com has been visited by millions. Copies of one of Warren’s best selling books, which contain images of some of the many postcards he has received, will be available for purchase during the Artomatic signing events. All proceeds from the book sales benefit Artomatic. The PostSecret signings will take be held in the Artomatic’s 11th floor store on: - Friday, June 6 from 7 p.m. to 8 p.m., and
- Friday, June 13, from 7 p.m. to 8 p.m.
Visitors to Artomatic can also watch a video presentation of some of the PostSecret postcards Warren has received in the Artomatic Film and Video Theater, which is located on the ninth floor. - WHERE -- The 11th floor, our favorite floor
- TIME -- 9 p.m. – 2 a.m.
What is a "mock" formal you ask? - Dress up. Dress funky. Pair some rhinestones and heels with a t-shirt and jeans or recycle an old bridesmaid dress. Basically get creative (and we know you can!). So, come by and celebrate the end of the show with your fellow floor neighbors. Get to know each other (if you haven't already). Everyone is invited! Bring all of your friends, and artists from other floors too, and party on the floor we all know and love. (Remember no outside alcohol, but not to worry, we have the bar on our floor!) Floors 4-10 & 12 - feeling left out? Organize your own Special Party for your floor! Two weeks left! | | | | | Coming Next Week: Pecha Kucha Night | | | Thursday, June 12, 2008, 7:30 - 10:00p.m., 12th Floor rsvp@capitolpechakucha.org Pecha Kucha Night was conceived in 2003 as a place for young designers to meet, network, and show their work in public. But as we all know, give a mike to a designer (especially an architect) and you’ll be trapped for hours. The key to Pecha Kucha Night is its patented system for avoiding this fate. Each presenter is allowed 20 images, each shown for 20 seconds each – giving 6 minutes 40 seconds of fame before the next presenter is up. This keeps presentations concise, the interest level up, and gives more people the chance to show. Pecha Kucha (which is Japanese for the sound of conversation) has tapped into a demand for a forum in which creative work can be easily and informally shown, without having to rent a gallery or chat up a magazine editor. This is a demand that seems to be global – as Pecha Kucha Night, without any pushing, has spread virally to over 100 cities across the world. | | | | | West Elm Furniture Auction | | | The West Elm-furnished lounges at this year’s Artomatic have really helped class up the event. Now you can bring some of that stylish vibe home at bargain prices. Artomatic will be auctioning off all the furniture from the West Elm-furnished lounges, with bids starting at half-off retail. The pieces include sofas, lamps, coffee tables and rugs. Stop by the lounges to check out the full selection. The auction is only for West Elm furniture at the event, and all furniture is sold as is. Auction forms and signs go up this week and bidding closes on the last day of Artomatic, June 15. Look for auction forms at each West Elm Lounge. Great deals are to be had! | | | | | |
