Painting is a powerful language in which I express myself and communicate. The message within each painting is an illustrated element or aspect of my life. I paint the moments that capture me -- the beautiful and the painful -- for the exquisiteness of any moment can make me cry, and then I paint. Sketching and drawing are tools of my vocabulary with which I discover and reveal my thoughts and feelings, and when I forget that I am making art -- when I am purely communicating -- I am free.

Peace—Posibilities (full size)
mix-medium on canvas
24x48 inches
2005
I created the Peace—Possibility series in response to September 11th, believing that we can find hope in times of tragedy and turmoil if we can open our hearts. Life is fascinating, and we can enhance our imagination and our wish for life if we work to explore the beauty of our world. I paint the moments that capture me the beautiful and the painful. The power of any moment, if experienced fully, can make me cry, and then I paint. I hope that these paintings convey a connection between nature and humanity. In this dark time I express hope, forgiveness, compassion, and love, in ambition of the peace I believe is possible.

The Root of Our Being (full size)

24 x 30 inches

We each have our own special place, somewhere deep within us, that is all our own. It develops from the world where we are born — it’s images, smells, languages, sounds, and rhythms. This place is always within us. Who am I ? The essential question of identity that is at the heart of a life’s quest. To where do I belong? The question of belonging in place — the root. . . . My root gives me firm ground to walk on. It is the place that I come from. It shapes my character, my soul, and my wishes. It informs my destiny, my life purpose and my dream path. Understanding where I come from helps me get a better sense of direction, toward where I am going in the world. Through my growth I see a connection of my root with who I am now. This world I share with you is about me. . . and my vision.
